I am pleased to report that another 79 Crime Prevention Tool Kits have been delivered in the last two weeks.  It is great to see them getting out there for everyone to use.

Welcome to the first of my regular crime prevention summaries which will be posted on this page.  The purpose of these is to keep you informed of trends, activities and new ideas which will assist keep crime levels low within North Harbour. 

Since beginning on the 25 January I have had the pleasure to visit a number of members and to discuss security with them. Security Alert: Bush Road

Thanks to feedback from members, we have been given the attached image of someone who has been in the Bush Road vicinity acting suspiciously.  The photo is attached.

NHBA's Crime Prevention Tool Kit is Launched

Another part of the North Harbour Business Association’s crime prevention initiative is the recent launch of the Crime Prevention Tool Kit.

Auckland Mayor Len Brown and Waitemata District Commander Superintendant Bill Searle attended the launch and spoke publically, praising the initiative to an audience of about 60 NHBA members, Auckland Council members, dignitaries, media and representatives of the New Zealand Police.

Security Alert - Vehicles used to commit burglaries

NHBA members are requested by North Shore Police and the NHBA Crime Prevention Specialist to be on the alert for 2 suspicious vehicles believed to be committing burglaries in the North Shore area.

A white coloured Toyota Hi ace van (No rego taken) with signage on the sides "Innovative Interiors" (or similar). This van was seen in company with a Blue coloured Subaru Legacy, with the rego number of AAV348.

Crime Prevention Survey - have your say.

As part of the North Harbour Business Association's Crime Prevention Programme, this survey has been commissioned to enable us to assess the current levels of crime and the fear of crime in our area.

This analysis will allow us to formulate an appropriate and relevant response in order to meet the needs of NHBA members in terms of crime prevention.

This survey is open to business owners, tenants, staff and residents within the North Harbour Business Association BID area.

Security Alert Counterfeit $100 notes

The NHBA Crime Prevention Specialist would like to bring to the attention of our members that North Shore Police have alerted us to the fact that there are currently a number of counterfeit $100 notes in circulation, notably in the Takapuna and Devonport areas.

These notes are less "Waxy" in appearance and can be torn easily at the edges. Also of note is that the window on the corner of the note is clear rather than overlayed.

Security Alert Opportunist theft in area

On Tuesday 10th May 2011 a retail premises in Rosedale Mews had an amount of cash stolen from behind the front counter by an unknown intruder who had entered the premises whilst staff members were distracted with customers. Two similar incidents were reported in the last week, in both other occasions the intruder had been challenged and left the scene. Could all NHBA members be advised to be extra vigilant and to report any suspicious persons or vehicles to Police on 111 in the first instance. Crime Prevention Update for June 2011

A number of incidents that have occurred in the North Harbour Business area have highlighted the need for people to be vigilant and to reconsider their own security measures.

A number of premises have reported disturbing intruders in their business premises during the day. On at least one occasion, a money box containing cash was stolen from behind the front counter whilst staff were busy dealing with customers elsewhere.

Other businesses have reported bogus callers entering premises, who when challenged, present a less than plausible excuse for being there, and leave.

The $220m NZ Transport Agency project in north-west Auckland completes another section of the Western Ring Route road of national significance, providing a motorway alternative to State Highway 1 and delivering improved transport links between the north, west and south of Auckland and to Auckland International Airport.

At the ribbon cutting celebration, the Prime Minister was accompanied by the Minister of Transport, Steven Joyce, the Mayor of Auckland, Len Brown, local iwi and NZTA executives and their contractors.

Crime Prevention Surveys and Safety Presentations

David Wright is putting all of his 23 years' of experience as a police officer to good use in his new role as Crime Prevention Specialist for the business community with the NHBA.

This is a free service for NHBA members. This initiative is funded by the Ministry of Justice.
